How we started

Our Story

NLBC was started in 1984 by four courageous local African missionaries who left safety in Nakulabye Sub County and came to a broken, hurting, and unsecure community called Nakawa bringing the good news of Jesus Christ. NLBC moved to its current location (Kireka) in April 2015.

However, in 2011 the church suffered a major tragedy when its building was torn down by the government along with 19,000 other houses in an effort to remove slums from areas so close to the city centre (government gentrification plan).  This disaster saw the church loose over 90% of its congregation – many in the community left for the country side.

In 2014, New Life Baptist Church (NLBC) celebrated 30 years of ministry in Kampala City – celebrating the thousands of people, scattered across the nation, who came to know and grow in the Lord Jesus through the church’s ministry.

Relevance to the City

The ministry of New Life Baptist Church strives to be relevant to the city and its people.

NLBC Philosophy is’ Becoming all things to all men for the purpose of bringing souls one step closer to Jesus’. (1 Corinthians 9:19 -20)

NLBC subscribes to the general intersected northern and southern Baptist doctrine but will define its  interpretation and practice of non-fundamental doctrines
